EVERY discerning dad will appreciate a decent bottle of wine, a fine spirit for the cocktail cabinet or a limited release to mark a special occasion... his.

So why not play host this Father’s Day and impress him with something worth sporting his Sunday best for on June 18?

Leading Bordeaux brand Mouton Cadet (owned by Baron Philippe de Rothschild) have teamed up with the America’s Cup to create Mouton Cadet America’s Cup Special Cuvee Rouge 2014, Bordeaux, France (£19, www.harrods.com).

The official wine of the 35th America’s Cup, which takes place in Bermuda (the final match is on June 24 and 25), your dad will feel like he’s at the helm with this trophy bottle signed by Sir Russell Coutts, five times winner.

There are plenty of superb whiskies out there, but if you’re on a budget, Aldi’s Highland Black 8 Year Old Whisky, priced at just £12.99 (in-store only) romped home with a silver medal at the 2017 ISC (International Spirits Challenge), and its sixth ISC medal to date. A rich blend of the finest grain and malt whiskies, it beat rivals at more than three times the price and has always been a firm favourite amongst shoppers ‘owing to its high quality and fantastic value’.

Tuned to the summer season, Rock Rose Gin - a multi award-winning small batch gin - has been re-styled for summer sipping with some new seasonal additions such as meadowsweet and elderflower for a light, floral note and lemon balm for a distinctive citrus twang. With its signature ceramic bottle, Rock Rose Gin Summer Edition (£37.50, 70cl, www.dunnetbaydistillers.co.uk) is a refreshing addition to the current gin craze. Just make sure he mixes it with a terrific tonic such as Fever Tree.

Inspired by Sir Ernest Shackleton and based on the whisky supplied to him for his 1907 British Antarctic Expedition, Whyte & Mackay have released Shackleton Blended Malt Scotch Whisky (£40, www.whiskyshop.com).

In 2007, three cases of the whisky were uncovered, frozen into the ice beneath Shackleton’s base camp - Whyte & Mackay’s master blender Richard Paterson analysed and recreated the whisky, and used it as the foundation for Shackleton.

“Like the man himself who made his mark on the world, this whisky certainly makes a mark on the palate,” says Paterson. “The boldness and complexity to its rich character is drawn from the Highland region and a gentle bite of peat smoke reminds us of the unforgiving place he and his men found themselves in.”

Presented in an Antarctic blue box, the compass logo is designed to reflect the expedition... enjoy over a large chunk of ice.
