Scouts and Guides from around Swindon will be flying the flag to mark their 25th Gang Show next week.

Around 100 of them will be treading the boards from Wednesday, March 26 to Saturday, March 29 in Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre.

Producer Jane Harvey says she gets a real buzz from seeing the young people’s confidence grow as they rehearse.

“I see the change as they have grown in themselves,’’ said Jane.

This year the extravaganza looks back across the 25 productions, picking the best of the best from Broadway shows, films and themed sections such as songs relating to funfair rides.

This is a year of commemorations as the Brownie movement marks its 100th year.

Jane said: “We have nine Brownies in our show and they will be dancing round the toadstool in traditional fashion.’'

Many of the songs and sketches were written by Gang Show founder Ralph Reader including the rousing Crest of the Wave. The first show was performed in 1932.

The finale is a Last Night of the Proms section dedicated to the memory of those who fought for their country in the First World War.

Jane said: “This year I wanted to remember what the soldiers did for us in the First World War and so we have songs such as Pack Up Your Troubles, and proms classics such as Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory, with the cast waving flags.’’ Tickets are £10 (£8 concessions) from 01793 617176.
