THE grown-ups enjoy the musical stage adaptation of The Gruffalo just as much as the children, according to the show’s director.

The Tall Stories’ production of the award winning picture book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, which they first performed on stage in 2001, will be at the Wyvern Theatre from April 11 to April 13.

Meet a wheeler-dealer fox, an eccentric old owl and a maraca-shaking, party mad snake. Mouse can scare these hungry animals away with tall stories of the terrifying Gruffalo, but what happens when he comes face to face with the very creature he imagined?

Director Olivia Jacobs said: “We have to make the show work for everybody. Obviously for the children, but also for the grown-ups at various different levels.

“Sometimes I sit at the back of the theatre, and there is nothing nicer than hearing a dad saying to a mum ‘I really enjoyed that’. They imagined it might be an hour where they could have a sleep but actually, thankfully, so far we have had good reports from all ages.”

The Gruffalo includes plenty of songs, laughs and fun for children aged 3+ and their grown-ups.

Tickets are £12 from wyverntheatre.org.uk or call 01793 524481.

Performances are at 1.30pm and 4.30pm on April 11, and at 10.30am and 1.30pm on April 12 and April 13.
