Swindon Dance gets down with the kids this summer, offering a summer school and dance events aimed at young people.

Mythical Maze kicks off the season by launching the Summer Reading Challenge at the Central Library, when young dancers from the studios in Regent Circus will perform a celebration of Big Dance, at 10.30am and noon on Saturday, July 12, and then at 10.30am on Saturday, July 19.

Swindon Dance is also hosting Dancing Pathways on Tuesday, July 15 from 5.15pm to showcase the in-house youth programmes of the studios and look at the future of dance opportunities for young people.

Marie McCluskey, artistic director of Swindon Dance, said: “The programmes can be a first step into dancing for sheer enjoyment, or lead to further pathways which develop the talent and passion of those who wish to pursue a career in dance.”

Dancing Pathways features primary STEPS, a partnership project with The Royal Ballet School, that has introduced hundreds of the town’s school pupils, aged seven to 11, into the world of dance.

Swindon Youth Dance Academy is also taking part in Dancing Pathways as it celebrates its10th year of creating the dancers of the future, in students aged from 10 to 18 years.

The Town Hall studios is hosting a summer school, run by Skedaddle Dance from Monday, July 28 to Friday, August 1 for children aged from six to 13.

There is a performance when school’s out on the last day in the Central Library Courtyard at 2.30pm for family and friends.
