TICKETS have almost sold out for the chance to take a walk on the wild side with Chris Packham at the Wyvern Theatre.

The BBC Springwatch and Autumnwatch presenter will be presenting an entertaining and informative look at some of nature’s most popular and interesting species in A Wild Night Out! on Monday.

Illustrated with his superb photographs from around the world and from his beloved UK, he explains the fascinating ecologies and behaviours of a range of creatures from leopards to barn owls, from cheetahs to pond skaters, from polar bears to peregrines.

He tells of close shaves, the often bizarre lengths he’ll go to getting the picture and challenges people to think again about the conventions of conservation.

“It’s designed to be as involving and engaging as possible, and there’ll be plenty of time for questions at the end,” he said.

Much of the talk will deal with carnivores and how we relate to them; Britain’s wildlife within historic memory included wolves, bears and wild boar, for example, but these species have long since become extinct here.

He contrasts our situation with that of people in other countries who live alongside lions and tigers, and whose attitudes to those creatures might be different from ours.

Suitable for people of any age, there are just a few tickets left.

The performance starts at 7.30pm.
