JOSEPH and his amazing technicolor dreamcoat visited a primary school with a spell binding end-of-term performance.

St Mary’s Catholic School in Bessemer Road East proved Any Dream Will Do as 42 year 6 pupils wowed the crowds with a performance of the hit West End Show.

This was the first of four all-singing, all-dancing performances as the pupils prepare to bid farewell to St Mary's before secondary school.

Headteacher Andrew Henstridge said he had been blown away by the group’s dedication to the show.

“I am amazingly proud of all of them. They have put all this together in a matter of weeks and have been so excited to perform,” he said.

To prepare for the musical spectacular, pupils travelled to Weymouth to watch the national tour of Joseph, starring X Factor winner Joe McElderry.

“They have been really inspired by each other and by going to watch the show,” Mr Henstridge said.

“They were brimming with confidence, I haven’t seen any nerves, just a lot of excitement.

“The children have so much stage presence and it has really put a smile on my face when I have listened to them rehearsing. You can tell it’s a really vibrant performance and they are all really enjoying themselves.”

The children were also joined by Sheila Harrod from the Kentwood Show Choir who accompanied them on piano.

Teachers Zoe O’Brien and Rachael Weaver co-directed the play with every costume including the glittering technicolor dreamcoat made by teaching assistants Steven Maul and Mary Kilminster.
