JACK Smith's early penalty was enough to end Town's winless run and see off a very poor Chester City side at the County Ground.
The defender coolly slotted his spot-kick into the bottom left hand corner of the net after the visitors had been penalised for handball.
The margin of victory should have been much much greater though and it certainly would have been had it not been for the heroics of John Danby in the Chester goal.
He made terrific stops to deny Blair Sturrock and Jamie Vincent while Jerel Ifil saw an early second half effort kicked off the line.
