A FOOTBALL supporters' club is hoping to raise funds for the Prospect@Home appeal.

Swindon Spurs is one of the largest supporters' clubs affiliated to Tottenham Hotspur in the south west and was established in 2003.

The 200-strong membership will attend their annual meeting next month at the White Hart pub, in Stratton St Margaret, and the money they raise from an auction of signed Spurs memorabilia will go to the Prospect appeal.

They have a close association with the Swindon charity and are otherwise known as the Prospect Spurs.

Roman Piotrowski, 48, from Covingham, is the chairman of the Tottenham Hotspur Official Supporters' branch, based in Swindon.

He said: "Prospect is a charity that has touched so many Swindon hearts.

"My mum died 20 years ago and was treated by the nurses at home. She had cancer and it was her wish to be treated there.

"The nurses were always so upbeat and their professionalism was immense. So it is important to show gratitude to these wonderful people.

"The auction will raise money for the brilliant people at the Prospect Hospice.

"Our association is known as the Prospect Spurs and over the last two AGMs we have raised £500 at each event."

A Prospect draw table is being planned and will be full of signed Spurs memorabilia. Tickets for the draw will be sold on the day and cost £5.

Taking centre stage will be a signed, framed Aaron Lennon England shirt donated by Nationwide, the sponsors of the England team.

The supporters' club meets on the first Sunday of every month to discuss forthcoming matches and to organise travel arrangements for home and away games.

Roman, who is half Polish and half Italian, attended every home match at White Hart Lane last season and missed only one away game.

He has two sons, Mark, 23, who is a Spurs fan, and Ashley 21, a Chelsea supporter.

Spurs fan Darren Marsh, 37, of Grange Drive, has been part of the supporters' club since it began.

He said: "As we are a supporters' group we can't make a profit so it's great any additional funds can go to a worthy cause like Prospect.

"Some of our members have used Prospect so we know what great work goes on there.

"Prospect@Home is important as it makes people feel comfortable in their own homes which is a good thing."

The club's AGM will take place at 1pm on Sunday, June 10 at the White Hart pub in Stratton. For more details of the supporters club visit www.swindon-spurs.com.
