A BT engineer had to be rescued after falling 20ft down a mineshaft.
Firefighters and Mountain Rescue were called to the scene, at Foxhill, Wanborough, just after noon today.
The Wiltshire Air Ambulance was also scrambled.
The man, who was conscious, was lifted out of the hole on a stretcher.
He has been taken to the Great Western Hospital with suspected broken bones.
He had been working on a communications pylon.
