Timothy Crook will appear in court today charged with the murder of his parents.

The 43-year-old was formally charged on Saturday and is due to appear before Swindon Magis-trates' Court this morning. The bodies of Robert and Elsie Crook, of Thames Avenue, Greenmeadow, were found in a Lincoln garden on Wednesday.

The alarm was raised after the popular couple failed to turn up to a weekly tea dance they ran at St Luke's Church, in Broad Green.

Their son was arrested at an address in Swindon five hours after the initial call to police on Wednesday.

Robert, 82, and Elsie, 76, are believed to have been murdered in their Greenmeadow bungalow before being driven more than 150 miles to Lincoln.

Their bodies were discovered in the garden of a house in Foxglove Way, Lincoln, which is believed to belong to their son.

Their vehicle, a new Nissan Micra, was found in Newark, Nottinghamshire, on Thursday.

The couple's bungalow, which is not far from the Shield and Dagger pub and Greenmeadow shops, was still cordoned off over the weekend.

Thomas Eaves, 92, was a member of the couple's tea dance group.

He said they were a wonderful couple who would be sorely missed.

"I can't understand how anybody would do such a thing," said Mr Eaves, of Stratton.

"They were great people and a lovely couple. I never heard them have a disagreement.

"They were well known by the dance community and will be missed."

Fellow member Julie Blackman, 85, of Moredon, paid tribute to the "marvellous couple".

"We just can't believe it," she said.

"They will be missed by a lot of people. I doubt if the dance will carry on.

"They were so good, they were really kind people."

The couple's family are being supported by police family liaison officers.
