STRICKEN traveller Sean Connolly is said to be in a stable condition in a Swindon hospital after online fundraising brought him home.

The 26-year-old, who grew up in Liden before moving to London, set off for a two-week holiday to India in October but was found collapsed in the street the next day and has been critically ill in a coma.

The cause of the former Dorcan Technology College student’s injuries remains a mystery as he has not regained consciousness, although it is not thought he was attacked as he has no marks on his body.

He had no travel insurance and it was costing up to £1,000 a day to keep him in intensive care in a Mumbai hospital. Sean’s father, Martin, flew out to be with his son and organise his treatment, while his family and friends launched a fundraising campaign to bring him home.

Sean flew back on a private charter on Friday and is now receiving treatment at Great Western Hospital.

A spokesman for GWH said: “We can confirm he is medically stable and treatment is ongoing.”

Dean Jarvis, who set up the fundraising website to help his stranded pal, posted on the Help Sean Connolly Facebook page yesterday: “Sean is back in the UK now with his family around him 24/7. “He is getting round the clock care from the nurses and making progress every day.

“Slowly he is becoming more conscious of his surroundings and people around him. “The doctors remain astonished at how much progress he has made from being first admitted to hospital.

“This is in part due to everyone’s efforts and both us and the family are certain he is aware of all the support and positive thoughts coming his way. “Let’s keep willing him on, people because he definitely hasn’t given up the fight.”

Friends and well-wishers flooded the site with messages yesterday, while a host of celebrities joined the campaign to help get Sean back to the UK including Radio One DJ Greg James, comedians Russell Kane and Keith Lemon and McFly’s Harry Judd and Danny Jones.
