A LOCAL charity is over the moon after discovering that they will benefit from this year’s Children in Need campaign.

Swindon Women’s Aid, a charity which works to protect and support victims and children of domestic violence, has won funding to help set up a dedic-ated Children’s Support Service.

The charity has been given three years of funding for two new children’s workers to work directly with children and young people living in their emergency refuge accommodation and in local communities.

Olwen Kelly, director of Swindon Women’s Aid, said: “We know 90 per cent of children living in violent households will be in the same room and witness the violent assaults or be in the next room and hear them.

“In many cases, children or young people will try to intervene in the violence and often become injured themselves as a result.”

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence or abuse, call Swindon Women’s Aid 24 hour helpline for information and advice, or to access its support services, on 01793 610610.
