A NIGHT of live music will raise funds in memory of a regular at Byron’s Wine Bar, in the town centre.

It is hoped the evening on Saturday, which is in memory of Derrick Everitt, who was known as Declan, will raise thousands of pounds for Prospect Hospice.

Derrick, 67, of Walcot, who died at Great Western Hospital on December 27, had received care from the hospice.

Landlady Antoinette Kerrigan said: “Derrick was a regular and he spent a lot of time with the Prospect so this is a thank you to them.

“Most people you speak to know someone who has been helped by Prospect Hospice. They do a fantastic job and we just thought it would be good to raise money for them.”

The event, which is at the venue in Byron Street from noon until midnight, will include a 12-hour live music marathon with music from Hippie Club, O’Fiddleary, Penfold, Becky J, Joe Young, Karl, Sylvester Flyers, Willy Kerrigan and Darooooo.

If it is still busy at midnight the event will continue with karaoke. There will also be a raffle and an auction which starts at 6.30pm. Lots include the chance to win a week’s stay for up to four people in a villa in Fuerteventura with airport transfers and a framed and signed photograph of Mike Tyson.

Children are welcome until 8pm.

“Our target is to raise £2,000 in a day, we have got a fantastic raffle with really great prizes and we have got a lot of local bands to donate their time. We are really going for it,” said Antoinette.

“We are hoping lots of people will come along and donate a minimum of £1 to come in. We really want it to be a success.

“The event is for anyone who has had any dealings with the Prospect Hospice. Derrick was our most recent regular that went there but it is for everyone that has had contact with the hospice.”
