A MOTHER is hoping to raise hundreds of pounds for charity in memory of her son.

Wendi Prince, of Redhouse, has organised a masquerade ball which will take place at The De Vere Village hotel on May 4.

The event is to raise money for cot death charity, Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID), in memory of her son, Oliver Phillips, who died when he was just five months old.

Wendi, 27, said: “Cot death is something that isn’t really talked about. I feel now, after three years, that I want to do something in Oliver’s memory.

“I want to make people aware that cot death does happen.

“When Oliver passed away, it had just been a normal evening.

“When I was going to bed I found him. I did CPR and called the ambulance. They tried their best, but sadly he passed away.”

The masquerade ball, which will run from 7pm to 1am, will include a three course meal, Allstars jazz band, an auction and a raffle.

Wendi said: “I am hoping to raise lots of money in his memory. Anything I can raise to help FSID makes the event worth it.”

FSID is the UK’s leading baby charity, aiming to prevent unexpected deaths in infancy and promote infant health. It funds research, supports families whose babies have died suddenly and unexpectedly, and has a helpline for bereaved families.

And its next infant scheme, in association with the NHS, supports bereaved families when they have subsequent babies.

Wendi, who has received support from FSID since Oliver died, also has a daughter, Amber Baker, seven, and a son, Noah Phillips, two.

She is hoping as many people as possible will come to the event.

Wendi said: “It is not just for people who have been affected by cot death. It is open to everyone.

“I want people who have been affected by stillbirth or who have lost a child to come along and meet people who have been in a similar position to them too.”
