A MOTORCYCLIST was killed in an incident understood to also involve a police car on the M4 late last night.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission has launched its own investigation into the single vehicle crash, which took place at around 7.30pm last night on the junction 16 westbound exit slip road.
The road was closed for several hours while officers pored over the scene and the motorcyclist, who has not been identified, was confirmed dead at the scene.
A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "At around 7.30pm yesterday there was a fatal road traffic collision on the junction 16 slip road of the M4.
"The male motorcyclist was confirmed deceased at the scene and an enquiry is being carried out by the IPCC."
A spokesman for the IPCC said: "We can confirm there was an incident and we deployed our investigators to conduct an independent investigation.
"It is very early stages and formal identification of the deceased has not yet taken place."
Under the Police Reform Act, all fatal incidents where there has been police involvement must be referred to the IPCC by the local police force.
