A REPUTATION as the most haunted pub in Wiltshire doesn't seem to deter visitors to the Kings Arms pub in Monkton Farleigh.

Simon Blagden and Vince Hanley have taken over running the pub and have happily settled in among the ghosts.

Mr Hanley, who lives above the pub, said: "I deal with the ghosts on a daily basis. It isn't scary but there is an atmosphere of history and you need to respect the place."

The legendary Sally in the Woods is supposed to be a visitor, along with a ghostly monk and a miner who is said to be troubled by the evidence he gave to an inquiry into a nearby accident.

Mr Blagden and Mr Hanley have completely refurbished and renovated the 17th century inn, maintaining original features but giving it a new lease of life.

"It is a beautiful building and we really wanted to keep that but give it a stylish makeover," Mr Hanley said.

In the winter months there are roaring open fires for customers to warm themselves by and the pub boasts the largest inglenook fireplace in the county.

As well as refurbishing the pub they have revamped the menu and brought in head chef Tim Doolan and sous chef Ben Gregory.

The pub now offers a bar for locals who just want a drink as well as a dining area offering freshly prepared and cooked food.

Starters include crab linguine, salmon cakes, caesar salad and smoked salmon, with main courses including winter warmers such as duck and a game casserole as well as favourites including steaks, burgers and a range of vegetarian options.

There is a fish dish of the day each day and a children's menu as well as a mini-version of any dish on the menu and board games available to keep youngsters occupied.

At lunchtimes the pub offers a range of meals, snacks and sandwiches.

Sunday lunches have really taken off and the pub welcomes families.

Music is also a feature of the venue and jazz evenings have proved to be a real hit with the customers.

Next on the bill is a Frank Sinatra tribute act, back by popular demand on November 30.
