YOUNGSTERS and staff at Ridgeway Day Nursery are celebrating after receiving an outstanding grade in their Ofsted inspection.

The inspector, who visited last month, said the way the nursery meets the needs of the children, the well-being of children, and the effectiveness of the leadership and management were all outstanding.

The nursery was given a grade of satisfactory in its last inspection three years ago and nursery manager Becky Webster said they were delighted with the new result.

“We are over the moon,” she said. “I was brought on to the team just after we got the satisfactory result, We have had three years to work and improve and the whole team has worked really hard.

“It is important to look after the safety and wellbeing of the children. We know the children inside out and understand their needs.

“If you don’t understand the children you can’t provide the care they need. We have got good relationships with the children and their parents.”

Becky said they are going to continue working hard to maintain the standards.

“You can’t rest on your laurels. There are still lots of things we would like to do, it is onwards and upwards for us. We are going to keep up the hard work,” she said.

The nursery operates from its own buildings within the grounds of Wroughton Junior School.

There are 75 children on roll in the early years age group.

The Ofsted inspector said: “Children enjoy a very broad range of highly stimulating resources and rich and varied activities that enable them to learn actively across all seven areas of learning.

“Children show curiosity as they play and explore. They are highly motivated and demonstrate an eagerness to learn.

“Children are very happy at nursery. Their behaviour is exemplary.

“Staff complete precise assessments of children’s achievements and, therefore, have an extremely good understanding of their progress. Securely timed interventions mean that all children's needs are met effectively.

“The leadership and management of the nursery are inspirational. The manager is highly driven to achieve excellence and, therefore, staff morale is high and the outcomes for children are strong.

“There are excellent partnerships with parents, external agencies, and local schools.”

The nursery is holding an open day on May 11 from 10am until 1pm.
