I JOINED a packed theatre for Sheila Harrod and her Kentwood Show Choir annual feast at the Wyvern on Saturday.

From the minute musical associate Paul Maguire and his band struck the first note in the overture, we knew we were in for a treat.

I hear the word professional bandied around by people who watch amateur productions. Well in this case it was. How wonderful to hear a band, who hadn’t seen the music until that morning, play without a bum note and together in harmony.

Solos, duets, groups and full choir numbers were sung with panache, skill and at times great sympathy.

The juniors performed with gusto, and as well as the senior choir. You can hear every word and note.

Staging, from Rachel Sparrow, was good. She also showed her West End credentials in her solo, Your Daddy's Son, from the musical Ragtime. Sheila took us on a journey of 39 musicals. No more to be said except, get your tickets early for next year’s 50th anniversary show. You won’t be disappointed. - ROS HOLLANDS
