BROADGREEN Breakfast Club is changing its name to coincide with its 20th anniversary. The club will now be known as Big Breakfast +, to emphasise the additional services provided for the homeless and those in need across the town.

The chairman of the trustees, Angus Macpherson, said: “That there is still a need for the club after 20 years is not something we want to celebrate, but in recent years our name has confused us with pre-school clubs and business networking meetings.

“We hope the new name will stand us apart and also give a clear message that while we are still providing breakfast for the homeless and those in need we also want to offer more through housing outreach, drug and alcohol advice.”

About 40 trustees, volunteers, supporters and clients attended a joint meeting of the Filling Station and the Breakfast Club last week.

The Filling Station has 50 clients every Thursday evening, offering food and advice.

The Breakfast Club serves 25 hot breakfasts six days a week.

Angus said: “Running the Breakfast Club costs £25,000 per annum, and we want to encourage people to give a small amount on a regular basis so we can concentrate on providing the service and not on fundraising.

“We also run a sponsor a breakfast scheme.

“A day costs £60, (or £50 with Gift Aid) and for companies sponsoring a week will cost £360.”
