TWO young men who tried to rob a teenager in his room at a hostel have been warned they could be facing jail.

When Daniel Hall, 20, of Argyle Street, and Daniel Latham, 18, of Penhill Drive, appeared at Swindon Crown Court they both admitted a charge of attempted robbery on two young men.

The younger man also admitted head-butting one of the victims, causing him actual bodily harm.

The pair say they were trying to steal drugs when they carried out the attack on January 4.

And they also insisted they were not armed with a knife during the incident at Radnor Lodge, which is supported accommodation for young men.

Prosecutors maintain it was money they were after, but accepted it would make no difference to the sentence, and said they would not pursue the knife allegation.

Simon Goodman, for Hall, said his client pleaded guilty on the basis he was the “back up”, no weapon was used, it was just intimidatory behaviour to get the drugs.

He said his client was in custody as a prisoner having been recalled following early release from another sentence.

Paul Trotman, for Latham, said his client was 17 at the time of the offending and admitted his guilt on a similar basis but accepts using violence to one of the victims.

“What has been accepted is he in fact had head-butted the complainant in the actual bodily harm injury.” he said.

“He also accepts he had pushed him up against a wall before head-butting him. The sticking point was we had always said there was no knife produced.

“We would say it was an attempted robbery of drugs.”

Judge Euan Ambrose adjourned the case to June 6 for pre-sentence reports.

But remanding them in custody he warned them: “All sentencing options are open and custody remains likely.”
