EMERGENCY services are currently on the scene of a road traffic incident in Westfield Way, Haydon Wick.

A pedestrian, believed to be a 12-year-old girl, has been struck by a car and police and an ambulance crew are in attendance.

The incident happened just before 5pm near to the roundabout next to Rosemary Close.

A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust said that the youngster had suffered head injuries and possible leg injuries.

The air ambulance landed at the scene, but the girl was transferred to Frenchay Hospital by road ambulance. They were accompanied by a critical care doctor from the helicopter.

Her injuries are serious but not thought to be life-threatening.

Motorists are advised that the road is currently blocked between Torun Way south and Bryony Way and they should take alternative routes.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them on 101.
