A CYCLIST is said to be in a critical and life-threatening condition after losing control of his bike at a roundabout in Cricklade last night.
A 66-year-old man, from the Bath area, was taking part in an organised cycle time trial event on the A419 around Cricklade.
For reasons unknown at this time he lost control while negotiating Calcutt roundabout in Cricklade and was believed to have hit a kerb before being thrown into a deep culvert.
Although a cycle helmet was being worn he suffered serious head injuries during the fall.
The incident took place at 7.10pm on Saturday, July 13 and the man was airflifted to Frenchay hospital in Bristol shortly after.
Anyone who witnessed the collision should contact PC 998 Hunt from Police headquarters in Devizes by calling 101.
