THREE films made by the next generation of young film-making talent have been given their premiere screening.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Create Studios and as part of the celebrations the first screening of Next Generation, which was made by the youngsters supported by the media professionals at Create, took place at Empire Cinema.

Funding secured from the Lottery through the BFI’s First Light initiative, enabled more than 60 young people from Swindon Academy, Crowdys School and Create’s own group MassMedia, together with countless volunteers to work on the three films last summer.

The group’s diverse ideas came to life in an eclectic mix of short films touching on universal themes, from dark childhood memories to a newly invented superhero.

The three films are called Rachel’s Nightmare, Class Clown and Superhero.

Sue Welsh, a teacher from Crowdys School, said: “It has been a privilege to work with Create Studios on this innovative project.

“The pupils have flourished as they have seen their ideas honoured, developed and sculpted by industry professionals.”

Shahina Johnson, Create manager, said “We are delighted to have been given this opportunity by First Light Movies once again. Create is all about making transformational opportunities for young people, and we have seen some great results, and let’s hope another national award as we have a great track record to live up to.”

As part of the premiere, Josh Kumra played a couple of songs including his number one hit Don’t Go, and also handed out certificates to the participants.
