THE Ridgeway Hospital in Wroughton says it has seen an increase in sports injuries since the Olympics.

According to a new survey by BMI Healthcare, one in five orthopaedic surgeons and physiotherapists say they have seen an increase in sports injuries following last year’s summer of sport.

The most common place for injuries is the gym (23 per cent) followed by tennis (21 per cent), horse riding (21 per cent) and cycling (14 per cent).

Julie Irlam, Physiotherapy Manager at BMI Ridgeway Hospital said: “While we encourage people to stay fit and healthy, it is also important that wannabe sports heroes understand that injuries do happen and that it is crucial when starting out to take necessary precautions which includes taking the advice of experts.”
