HUNDREDS of eager fans queued for hours yesterday to grab a meeting with X Factor star Jahmene Douglas when he visited the Asda Walmart he used to work in to sign copies of his new album.

The talent show finalist, from Swindon, returned to his home town after touring America with his gospel songs. He officially launched his new album in the supermarket where he worked for more than a year.

Jahmene said: “It feels strange to be back in Asda and see all the old faces, but with my CDs on the shelves now.

“It is good to have this as the first signing so I get to come back to Swindon “ It does feel wierd, but in a nice way.

“It has been overwhelming, but at the same time great to meet everyone who is buying the album.

“I worked here for about a year and a half so it is great to be back.”

After spending two hours chatting to fans and posing for photos, Jahmene took the attention modestly.

“I don’t feel like this is fame, it is just another platform,” he said. “This is all a bit new to me and sometimes I forget quite how to spell my name when I’m signing the albums.”

There were different stories from each meeting, and Jahmene described his favourite. “One woman came up to me today and said she had been in a violent relationship but is free from it now and that my song, Titanium, helped her get through it.” he said.

“Next I will be going back to America to start recording all my own stuff.”

Fans could barely contain their excitement and some waited for hours for a chat with the X Factor star.

Sam May, 21, said: “I have been queuing for about two hours now. We just moved back from Germany and we watched him on the X Factor over there, so this is a bit of a bonus.

“It is a real privilege, and it is good of him to come back to the place where he used to work, to meet his fans.

“We only moved here a week ago, so we feel very lucky.”

Shannon Deacon, 17, said: “I came to see him before when he came to switch on the Christmas lights. I am a big fan because he is so inspirational and he has had a very hard life, so he deserves all this. It is very loyal of him to come back to the place he used to work.”

Jahmene’s album Love Never Fails is out now.
