TO CELEBRATE the 10th anniversary of Swindon’s twinning with Torun a delegation is travelling to Poland to take part in festivities.

Councillor Stan Pajak, Swindon’s mayor Nick Martin, along with Mark Sarnowski, chairman of Torun and Swindon Twinning Enterprise, will arrive in the historic Polish town on Wednesday.

Coun Pajak, whose family were originally from Poland, was mayor of Swindon when the two towns became aligned.

The trio were invited on the all expenses trip by Torun’s council, which is hosting a festival to mark the decade of twinning.

“Swindon has a big link with Poland – originally from the war and there is a big Polish community here,” said Coun Pajak.

“It’s a great place to visit. It’s a very historic place, it’s very nice. I’d encourage people to go and visit.”

The delegation will take with them a painting of Stonehenge by local artist Robin Woodford to give to officials in Torun.

“Everybody in the world knows of Stonehenge and it’s particularly fitting as Stonehenge is in Wiltshire,” added Coun Pajak.
