PERVERT Davinderjit Bains, who was sentenced to 12 years in prison and struck off the medical register for life after sexually assaulting female patients, is planning to appeal his sentence.

Bains, 46, of Nythe, carried out the offences over a period of three years while practising as a GP at Tinkers Lane Surgery, in Royal Wootton Bassett.

Police found 361 videos on his laptop of intimate medical examinations, which had been filmed using a camera in his watch without his patients’ knowledge.

Bains admitted 39 charges, including 13 of assault by penetration, 11 of sexual assault, two of sexual activity with a child and 13 counts of voyeurism. He asked for a further 65 offences to be considered during sentencing in May.

He has now approached the Court of Appeal in a bid to have his sentence reduced.

Bains’s 29 victims have been notified of his decision, which has been met with incredulity.

“I just cannot believe it,” said one victim, who did not wish to be identified.

“It is amazing that he even has the right to appeal. I am having a lot of counselling as a result of this, and I now have no faith in the justice system at all.

“It is laughable that he has the right to seek a shorter sentence.

“Speaking on behalf of all the other women he should not be allowed to appeal. He is asking for a lesser sentence when I worked out that he is only doing 72 hours of prison time for each assault.

“I do not know the details of the other women, but he examined me for no reason at all. I was having problems after a previous incident and had started losing a lot of weight very quickly, so he asked me to take all my clothes off so he could examine my body fat.

“I had no suspicions of him at the time, other than I remember thinking that he had a lot of pens in his pocket and kept twiddling them all the time, which I found quite strange. Perhaps that was something to do with the camera.

“I knew nothing about the assault until CID came to my home and showed me some of the images they had taken from his laptop.

“I do not think I will ever have closure. My trust has been broken by people I have put all my faith in, and it is very hard to recover from that.

“He has now got two solicitors working on his behalf, and it is now going to go to Crown Court for appeal,” said the victim.

“That means we are likely to have to go back to court, and we should not have to relive all of this again.”

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “This is a matter for the Court of Appeal to consider and it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed Bains has sought to appeal his sentence, and could not comment.

An independent report has been commissioned by NHS England into the lessons learned following the actions of Bains, and is due to be published on November 12.
