CHILDREN at Westlea Primary School had a visit from the Soil Association and Food for Life Partnership (FFLP) on national Roast Dinner Day.
Yesterday, representatives from the Soil Association and the FFLP joined the children for lunch to celebrate their fourth national Roast Dinner Day.
Children and visitors enjoyed roast turkey and seasonal vegetables followed by fresh fruit meringues.
Sarah Sumner, deputy head teacher at Westlea, said: “For nearly two years, Westlea has cooked its own food on site and the quality of the food is of a continually high standard.
“The children are offered a broad and balanced range of different meals, including a vegetarian, jacket potato and packed lunch option.
“We have been awarded both the ‘Bronze Food for Life Award’ and hold ‘Healthy Schools Plus’. The school is currently working towards the Silver Food for Life award.”
The Soil Association-led FFLP works with nearly 5,000 schools across England, supporting the delivery of food education through growing and cooking, farm links and improving school meals. Funded by the Big Lottery’s Well-being programme, FFLP educates children about the journey their food takes from field to fork.
