Driver of car which hit lap dance club faces jail

A MAN has admitted endangering life when he smashed a car into the front of a lap dancing club which then caught fire.

Faisal Qaddus was behind the wheel of a black Honda Prelude which was reversed into the front door of Dream Lounge at the bottom of Victoria Road.

The 27-year-old, of Amber Court, Colbourne Street, pleaded guilty to damaging property being reckless as to whether life was endangered.

Qaddus pleaded not guilty to a more serious charge of damage with intent to endanger life but prosecutors said they would not seek a trial.

Alex Daymond, defending, told Swindon Crown Court that while psychiatrists said he was fit to enter a plea, he clearly had mental health issues.

Judge Tim Mousley QC adjourned the case to Friday January 17 for further a psychiatric report.

He also ordered the probation service time to compile a pre-sentence report and remanded the defendant in custody.

He said: “This is an offence that is so serious it is likely you will go to prison immediately. Do you understand that? You should be left in no doubt about that.”

The car smashed into the front of the club at about 7am on Saturday July 13 this year before the fire started.
