Wiltshire Police have urged firms to be 'cyber streetwise'

First published in News

WILTSHIRE Police are urging businesses in Swindon to get ‘cyber streetwise’ this year.

The force has launched a campaign to promote online safety and provide business owners with the knowledge needed to take control of their cyber security.

The scheme is part of a government-led initiative Be Cyber Streetwise, which encourages people to adopt safer behaviours online and avoid becoming a victim of cyber criminals.

A new website, www.cyber streetwise.com, offers a range of interactive resources and clear advice on the essentials for enjoying a safe experience online.

Detective Sergeant Jon Lee, head of complex fraud at Wiltshire Police, said: “Cyber crime is very much a hidden crime. It’s hard to know the true scale of the problem.

“This isn’t just a crime that affects people in Wiltshire or in the UK. It’s a global problem. For victims of cyber crime, it can be an extremely traumatic and often embarrassing experience.

“Some people choose not to report the crime for these reasons but I would always urge anyone who feels they are a victim or potential victim of cyber crime, in any form, to contact Action Fraud via www.actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.”

The Real Librarian says...

Oddly enough, I know a business in Swindon who reported a serious attempt at Fraud that they discovered. They even knew who did it.

What did the Police do?

Nothing!
