Police are investigating sudden death of woman
THE body of a woman was discovered at a home in Chiseldon in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Residents in the quiet street reported a large police presence in the area of Butts Road at around 9.30am, with a number of police units descending on the house along with two forensic teams.
It is believed the police are not currently treating the incident as suspicious, and formal identification of the woman is not yet possible.
Forensic squads, along with neighbourhood police, cordoned off the semi-detached property on Butts Road throughout the day, and residents returned home to the news in shock.
One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “This is awful. I know their next-door neighbours who knew them very well. It is absolutely tragic.”
Some residents say they were woken in the early hours of the morning by a commotion coming from the property after a dark red Ford Fiesta had returned to the house.
Another neighbour said: “People saw the car arrive at the house early in the morning at around 6am. “After that there were noises from inside the house which were so loud they woke the whole street up.
“The police turned up just after 9am with two forensic vans and six or seven cars. They have stayed here ever since.”
The property is believed to have been inhabited by a couple with children, but it has not yet been confirmed if the woman found at the house was living there at the time.
The neighbour added: “It was a family living in there, but I didn’t really know them very well. She was fairly young and he was an older man. They had two-year-old twins.”
Wiltshire Police were alerted of the incident after recieving reports of the woman having been found dead. They have not confirmed the identity of the woman found or the circumstances of her death, and enquiries into the tragedy are continuing.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “We were called to a residential address in Chiseldon at 9.30am, to reports of a body of a female found inside.
“Police enquiries are ongoing. There is no formal identification at this stage."
