Move quick to save with energy switch scheme
5:30am Saturday 15th February 2014 in News
TIME is running out to register interest in the collective switching scheme, which could shave pounds off people’s energy bills.
Registration closes on Monday and so far more than 23,000 people are participating overall in the scheme to see how much they could save.
Swindon took part in its first scheme, run in partnership with ichoosr, last March and it resulted in the majority of participants being able to save an average of £72 a year on their bills.
Damian Kieljan, a finance officer, from Freshbrook, switched after taking part last year and has noticed a drop in his bills.
The dad-of-one, aged 35, said: “It was a well-organised and positive experience with no real effort involved on my part.
“My bills have certainly gone down, having switched.
“In addition to paying less for what we use, we’ve also replaced the boiler and had insulation fitted so our home is more energy efficient.”
Coun Dale Heenan, the cabinet member for strategic planning and sustainability, said: “It’s really encouraging hearing stories of residents who switched with the last scheme and are already feeling the benefits.
“This initiative is a proven way to make significant savings on your energy bills, which have been hitting the headlines because of big price hikes. You don’t have to accept the offer, so there’s nothing to lose from taking part and seeing how much you could save.”
To join in, go to www.swindon.gov.uk/energyswitch. Anyone without internet access can visit the council’s One Stop Shop, in Beckhampton Street, or call 01793 445500 to express their interest.
