Little pieces make big impression at care home

Swindon Advertiser: Kim Thomson with the new mosaic for Rosebank Care Home in Bampton Kim Thomson with the new mosaic for Rosebank Care Home in Bampton

Kim Thomson spent three months working with elderly residents to create a mosaic for their care home.

The artist, who also works as a teacher for the Swindon Tuition Centre, worked with staff and residents at the Rosebank Care Home in Bampton to create the large design.

Kim said: “Everyone got involved – residents and staff – all giving their ideas. It was a real team effort.

“The first thing was to sit down and talk about what they wanted and then get to work.

“It took three months to complete because it’s a mosaic and all the little pieces had to be cut up and put on there.

“It had to be something personal to them.

“It’s a mosaic made of pottery and ceramic which features a dignity tree and it also has the word Rosebank across the top.

“It has seven separate panels, making up the whole piece, which all had to be put together separately.”

On Saturday, Kim put the final pieces together on the wall.

She said: “It was hard work and I am glad it has been completed and that it can now be enjoyed by the residents.

“I’m glad it’s somewhere it will be enjoyed and appreciated.”
