CLARIFICATION: In yesterday’s paper we incorrectly stated that Swindon Council had put down a number of abandoned dogs in recent weeks. We are happy to point out that the council has only been forced to destroy one dog during this period after he failed to respond to veterinary treatment.
The council has asked us to point out that the decision to destroy a dog is only made as a last resort and on animal welfare grounds. Every effort is made to find abandoned dogs new homes.
