1947: Ferndale Youth Centre and Fairford Town will contest the final of the Advertiser Cup competition. In the semi finals Ferndale defeated Highworth 3-0 while Fairford ran riot against Swindon GWR Corinthians Swindon and District League side, defeating them by nine goals to one.
1957: For the second night in succession police were called to a Swindon cinema to quell a disturbance during a rock ‘n’ roll film. Last night it was to the Arcadia and the night before to the Gaumont cinema. Manager of the Arcadia, Mr A F Chappel, said a gang of Teddy boys got in and started ripping up the cinema seats.
1977: Competitors in speech and drama classes from the Swindon Festival won enthusiastic praise from adjudicator Mary Jack. She told the three entrants in the Over 14s Improvisation Drama class: “Yours is the best improvisation I have seen for a long time.’’ 2013: A new parish council for Nythe was to be created after a surprise decision by Swindon Council. The council agreed to cut off 1,138 homes from Stratton parish to create a new Nythe Parish Council from May 2014.
