POLICE have warned of an increase in the theft of bicycles from across the east of Swindon and urged cyclists to be cautious.
A police spokesman said throughout April there had been a significant increase in the theft of bikes, particularly in Eldene, Liden, Park South and Park North.
The East Swindon Neighbourhood Policing Team have issued crime prevention advice, including always locking your bicycle, even if you are just leaving it for a couple of minutes, investing in a good lock to secure your bike and avoid leaving your bike in isolated places.
Officers also suggest cyclists should store their bicycles in a secure garage or shed and keep the door locked, out of public view, as well as recording and registering with a reputable company such as Bike Register or immobilise and security marking the frame.
