THE COUNTY Ground was awash with green yesterday as thousands of fans joined in with fundraising appeal for a well-known children’s charity.

Local fundraisers for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children posted 8,000 flyers on the seats of Swindon Town fans in both the Don Rogers and Arkell’s stands, ready to turn them green ahead of the Robins’ match with Bradford.

Meanwhile, Town and Bradford players donned NSPCC T-shirts before kick-off to show their support the organisation.

“It looked brilliant,” said community fundraising manager Caroline Morgan.

“The players wore NSPCC T-shirts to warm up in and the club kindly invited 20 local children to accompany the players on to the pitch.

“Money raised by our special Text to Donate number will go towards helping children locally and nationally.

“In Swindon we have a therapeutic centre where children and families are helped by our practitioners all of which is paid for by fundraising money.

“Nationally, we run the fantastic 24/7 confidential dedicated helpline Childline.

“The club have been fantastic in their support for us and we are lucky enough to be their charity of the year for next season too, we look forward to working with them again next year.

“We are so grateful to the club, to the local branch of NSPCC for the work they do and to the people of Swindon for their generosity. We will know the total raised later in the week.”
