Help make pool‘s wishes come true

Swindon Advertiser: Neil Montgomery, the manger of Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool, who is appealing for help to fulfil its wish list Neil Montgomery, the manger of Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool, who is appealing for help to fulfil its wish list

A WISH LIST has been published by the Thamesdown Hydrotherapy Pool to help the charity improve its facilities over the coming years.

The pool, based in Jefferies Road, relies heavily on outside support to allow it to function smoothly and provide thermal water therapy for the disabled.

An appeal to raise £50,000 towards the refurbishment of the changing rooms was launched yesterday and to date £15,270 has been raised.

The 20 wishes, which include a replacement Jacuzzi plant, a waterproof shed, a new CCTV system and new movable patient tables, is likely to cost more than £116,000 to complete.

Pool manager Neil Montgomery said: “Periodically we are asked by visitors to the pool, companies and local businesses if we have a wish list.

“We first produced a wish list in 1997 containing 20 wishes, all but two of these were achieved, thanks to donations and support by 2012.

“We have now formulated a new list of 20 wishes, including the two from the original list.

“The first five wishes (suspended ceiling in large changing rooms, overhead patient lift, new dosing system for pool and Jacuzzi, new front door and new Jacuzzi plant) will need implementation in the near future to ensure that the facility can continue to operate within the health and safety guidelines.”

Other wishes include a replacement fence surrounding the remembrance garden which pool users raised money to build, replacement chairs for the poolside hoists, which need replacing every five years, and a new ceiling in the Jacuzzi area which, like the large changing room, suffered from considerable condensation damage four years ago following a major ventilation failure.

Neil is now appealing for help in making the wishes come true.

“If your company or business could sponsor a wish or contribute towards one it would be much appreciated,” he said.

“We are also looking for individual support from people who can spare voluntary time with some of the wishes, plus there are numerous small items that could be undertaken with little or no cost to yourself.

“We rely heavily on the generosity of our pool users, general public, local companies and business for support to the upkeep of the facility.”
