A SWINDON hair and beauty expert shared her expertise and tips with consumers in an episode of BBC’s Fake Britain.

Gina Akers, 35, of Old Town, acted as an ambassador for the Hair and Beauty Industry Authority on the popular programme, which aims to uncover common cons customers regularly fall victim to.

In the world of beauty, the traps are varied, from salons using unsuitable chemicals, to unqualified staff passing for professionals, or nail bars using superglue to cut corners.

“Clients want to know that they are in the best hands and that they are safe,” said Gina, a former Adver columnist.

“I would recommend clients to ask to see qualifications and copies of certificates and go to reputable salons – so they should ask around and visit professional registers.”

Gina began working in a salon at the age of 12. She went on to study business and management at Oxford Brookes University and achieved a string of hair, beauty and nail qualifications.
