CREW members from the local McDonald’s restaurant joined forces with the 1st Lydiard Park Scout group to tackle litter in St Mark’s Park last week.

The Love Where You Live litter event was made up of 19 volunteers from the Cocklebury restaurant and the local Scout group.

Armed with litter pickers, the team collected 21 bags of litter in total and transformed the area.

Local McDonald’s franchisee, Paul Booth, said: “It was inspiring to see the volunteers take action on litter that damages our environment.

“It’s everyone’s responsibility to keep our communities clean and through these events we wanted to generate awareness of the issue, as well as encourage more responsibility when disposing of litter.

“I’d like to thank the crew members who volunteered, as well as the 1st Lydiard Park Scout group for their hard work and setting a good example of what can be achieved if people pull together. It’s vital that we all do our bit to tackle the issue – everyone from local businesses, to the residents of Swindon should make a commitment to helping protect the local environment.”

Aside from larger litter events such as these, staff at the restaurants patrol the local area and clean up regularly throughout the day to collect all litter that has been discarded, regardless of its origin.
