IS there anything Joe McElderry can’t win? The fresh-faced singer, who triumphed in the X Factor final against Olly Murs in 2009, later came first in Popstar to Operastar in 2011, and earlier this year he won Channel 4’s daredevil skiing show The Jump.

The 22-year-old Geordie, who has four albums under his belt, is rumoured to be starring in Strictly Come Dancing this year, but he said it’s not true... (there is still a chance though.) “There are always rumours every year and I always get texts off people saying ‘oh my god, congratulations’,” he said.

“I have to tell them no sadly not at the moment. If I was asked I would 100 per cent consider it. I haven’t been asked yet though. I think they tend not to ask until later in the year. I do enjoy a good dance so it would be fun to do.”

Joe, who won the nation’s hearts in X Factor while being mentored by Cheryl Cole, said he loved launching himself into winter sports during television show, The Jump, this year.

The show saw contestants taking on some of the most thrilling winter sports, including skeleton, bobsleigh, speed skating, ski cross, slalom and the ski jump.

“It was an absolutely incredible experience. It was one of the most unexpected and fun things I have done,” he said.

“I have so much respect for any sportsperson now because the amount of training we did wasn’t even half of what they do. I came back and felt like I needed a body transplant.”

Joe’s feet are now firmly back on solid ground, and he is currently on a 60-date tour of the country called Set Your Soul Alive. It’s his second solo tour.

He has done more than 40 of the dates so far, and will be performing at the Wyvern Theatre on June 12.

“The great thing about touring is it’s solely just about performing.

“You go on stage and you have a natural connection with the audience. There are no cameras, you just go out and perform with the band.

“It’s so much fun, it sounds clichéd but it is what I wanted to do in the industry,” he said.

“The first two to three weeks of a tour are quite challenging because you’re working out your limits body-wise and vocally. At this point, we’re used to it so that’s when the fun really starts.”

Joe described the show as high energy with music from all four of his albums, as well as new material from his next.

He doesn’t have a date for the next album release yet though.

“It’s important with every tour that you cover the journey you have been on musically from the beginning,” he said.

“In one section we get the audience to request songs. It’s a really interactive part of the show and the audience feel like they’re in charge.

“It’s just a great night. I try to make it a bit of a music concert but at the same time a feel-good night out.”
