THE LIST...UPDATE: Swindon's 20 best restaurants, as voted by us...

First published in News

EARLIER this week we published a list of Swindon's 20 best restaurants, as voted by the public via Trip Advisor.

As usual, the list generated plenty of debate, many outraged at omissions. So we've produced a counter list of our own on the same subject.

Michelle Tompkins and Emma Dunn, the names behind our regular Friday MENU supplement got their heads together to come up with the Adver alternative.

Is it any better? Have your say in the comments box. In fact, list your own top 20. If we get enough we'll produce a comprehensive readers' list too...

Unfortunately these ratings in a lot of cases are manipulated by owners, staff and friends. Eggylicious Really, just makes a joke of the whole system.

I was a bit confused by this list at first as many of my favourites are not on it and I have tried very few of these places listed. I do agree with Egg-e-licious as their customer service is very good, the food is good and it is clean and tidy even when busy. I realised after that this list has been compiled by the Swindon Advertiser after the publication of the Trip Advisor list which listed many more restaurants. I like the idea of a Top 20 places as 294 restaurants may take a while to visit. I do like Jade Garden, Gaetanos, Il Capricorno, Frankie and Bennys, The Dockle Farmhouse, The Thai Orchid, Fabios, Marios and Biplob.

Much better but still contentious....
Still running loose with the restaurants in Swindon bit though.

I would and have eaten at most of these.....Any honest reviews of Rustico need somewhere to eat later and have heard polar opposite reviews so far.

I do like The Brewers Arms at Wanborough it is great to go to as a family. The Calley Arms at Hodson is very relaxing too. I have also enjoyed eating at The Bell in Broad Hinton, The Fox And Hounds in Wroughton, The Old Swan Inn in Lechlade. In Swindon there is a cafe in Manor Garden Centre on Cheney Manor Industrial Estate who serve good food and have exceptional customer service and I also like eating in the Hungry Horse, The Kembrey Inn, Yates and Wetherspoons. For take away food Noffs at Grange Drive and Regents Street and Subway. The chip shop at the bottom of Drove Hill is also very popular although it has limited opening times.
I think the list needs to be called favourite food outlets in the Swindon area as there is some contention between restaurants, cafes, pubs and take away food outlets.

Interesting how we just cannot put up with others not agreeing with our choices. Sure I am no different.

I like Los Gatos, Le Chat, Rio, and Moshan Island Grill.

Weighbridge is OK but food a bit rich and atmosphere a bit too pretentious for me. Egg-e-Licious I liked but probably a bit on the pricey side for a wrap,(great service though it has to be said).

Had good meals at The Harrow, and The Sun (The Lydiard Millicent one)

Never been to The Red Lion or Jic Saw in Cricklade must try. Heard good reports about Jic Saw

The Bolingbroke Arms is one of my favourites, along with the Weighbridge and now Rios Brazil, the Weighbridge is the only place I know in the area that offers a Chateaubriand steak and if they did a Porterhouse I'd die a happy man, but probably only from eating too much!

It's a shame that the swindon Adver have a very biased way of operating in swindon.

They have there own agenda and tactic of controlling the news etc.

Today the Old Bank was votes the best bar in a non controlled competition we were advised today we won. Shame about the management at the Adver who run it. I feel for the hard working staff there who are poorly led.
