Don’t fall foul of law during World Cup

Swindon Advertiser: Superintendent Gavin Williams Superintendent Gavin Williams

‘ENJOY it, don’t spoil it’ is the message from Wiltshire Police as England prepare for their opening game against Italy tonight.

They have teamed up with Wiltshire Council and Swindon Council to launch the ‘Enjoy it, don’t spoil it’ campaign to tackle the risk of violence at home or in public places.

Superintendent Gavin Williams said: “The World Cup comes around every four years so my message to everyone is to enjoy it, but be aware that if they become violent or disorderly then we will take action. If there are related arrests then we will push for bail conditions preventing people from entering licensed premises.

“I will be on duty myself along with commanders across the region. We have staff on duty who have been informed and briefed on what to expect and how to deal with issues which may arise. This will be a high visibility operation as we seek to make sure everyone has a safe and enjoyable World Cup.

“We have an intelligence unit who will be able to identify any potential areas of trouble and a mobile unit able to respond if it is needed. We also have extra staff on duty in our domestic violence team.”

The campaign is being run in support of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) drive to raise public awareness about research which shows cases of domestic abuse can increase by nearly 30 per cent on England match days.

Superintendent Williams added: “We have put a great deal of time and effort into this year’s campaign, with the intention of showing the public of Wiltshire and Swindon that domestic abuse and violent crime will not be tolerated.”

The police presence will increase across Wiltshire and Swindon in public areas where matches will be shown throughout the World Cup to ensure that fans enjoy themselves responsibly. Partnership agencies are working alongside Wiltshire Police in hotspot areas to hand out leaflets and give advice about alcohol and domestic abuse.

If you are a victim or witness to domestic abuse or alcohol-related behaviour, dial 999 in an emergency or 101, the non emergency number. For domestic abuse advice and support contact Swindon Women’s Aid on 01793 610610, or Victim Support on 08453 030900.

The police might 'not tolerate' the violence and crime that will inevitably occur over the next few weeks, but thankfully the criminals have nothing to fear as our local judiciary have proven, time and again, just how tolerant they are about it.

This has no power at all.
Nice old wives tales though its been a while since I heard either of those.

Debate would be wonderful but it never is, people comment on here and I am sure do not read previous comments or even the article at times.
Its just about personal agenda whatever that means on a forum that is both anonymous and powerless.

As valid as any opinion you may think you have is it matters not one jot when it has no value behind it. You are just a log on detail on a site with few hundred people that read it and even fewer that read the comments.

Either develop the idea and create a better way or shut up sit in the corner and let adults do it.

Ah, you're one of those who believes the nutcases on here. Should have guessed.

For what it's worth, I'm far from 'anti-everything'. I just get a little tired of constantly reading headlines about how the police are cracking down on XYZ while at the same time reading endless headlines about the latest repeat offender who's been allowed to walk free from court to go on holiday.

Believe it or not, most people aren't aware this stuff goes on in our courtrooms. Many who are aware don't see to really care.

But, you know how you think 'Speed Kills' and drink driving is worse than genocide.... well, that's because you've lived your life reading, hearing and seeing the message over and over again.

As long as the courts and judiciary keep failing us, I'll point it out. The more people who see these things pointed out, the more likely it is that something may eventually get done about it. That's the only thing posting here might help 'achieve'. If you don't like that, well, it's kind of the same as me not really liking your posts - it happens, but there we are, that's life.

Ironically, your post above seems pretty much like what you types would describe as 'bullying' but, naturally, you'll not admit that because your rules don't apply to you.

As it happens, I've just taken a lovely mountain bike ride down the MBT and bought some supplies of a BBQ with friends later, before heading out to a World Cup party with some French friends. So, plenty of fresh air, plenty of good times and none of the drivel a few of you on here insist on coming out with.

On a related note, it's astonishing how much your post above sounds like another yawnsome contributor to these threads. They ask inane questions and then spend all day demanding answers as well.

It uninformative and dull.

The courts system isnt working we get it.
And I'll keep mentioning it until it is working.

If you're bored of hearing about it, help do something to get it working - rather than accepting it's not working but preferring to just accept it (despite being forced to pay for it).
"And I'll keep mentioning it until it is working" - how utterly delusional are you? Do you honestly think that you will put the worlds rights wrong via the Adver comments section? You really are ridiculous!
What a silly, childish post.

Do you honestly think the Adver comments section is the only place these issues are highlighted and pointed out?

I will continue to point out how the system we're forced to pay for doesn't work. If you have a problem with that, I could literally not care less.
As you keep boring us with the same repetitive cut and pasted posts, then we do get the message that you couldn't care less about the audience who has to read them. That's what I'd call childish.

@IfItsONtheNet - I answered your silly question, very directly. Not my problem if you're too indolent to actually bother reading the answer you went out of your way to demand, several times.

@Badgersgetabadname - as per usual, it's near impossible to work out what your post is supposed to mean. I assume English isn't your first language, but at least make an effort. It's also worth pointing out that, if you didn't already know, 'Localboy86' is yet another of I Too / Empty Car Park's various account usernames.

I'm starting to think 'IfItsONtheNet' may also be him, given that the style of the posts are virtually identical, in terms of content and how poorly they're constructed.

The Adver reads the comments section, and what they perceive is of public interest influences their reporting. There's also the 'six degrees of separation' which means that word travels considerably further than a single screen, perhaps even to the judges themselves.
What other influence does it have? Well it certainly seems to have inflamed you and others to ranting. The amount of time you've spent this weekend posting drek on the subject would seem to indicate that the OPs comment had a great deal more influence than you're prepared to admit. We also learned that 'anotherimigrant' knows nothing of Shakespeare and is quite prepared to display his ignorance in public rather than use his internet connection to educate himself as to the identity of King Lear.
Strange how you cry for ideas for debate, but your own comments seem to comprise nothing more than bilious demands for other posters not to post. You offer nothing original yourself, just a stream of invective against people who you appear to wish to censor. The initial post was of course perfectly apropos an article on law and order.
Regarding your side note, see the article about police officers hospitalised on the front page.

I see you have adopted the playground approach of "yeah but what are you"

My point earlier in the thread is that ALL of your comments read exactly the same, I said you are dull and uninteresting.

You have proved that adults can have different opinions that change depending on information available and topic. I appreciate this is contrary to you thought process of say it loud and say it often but you have once again demonstrated your inability to debate and shown that you only look to derail threads.
You have I think accused me of doing what you have been doing, the fact that people may not agree with you just doesnt compute does it?

I have no problem at all with people disagreeing with me. It would be somewhat strange if everyone agreed with everything I said or think. Similarly, just because I disagree with most of your comments above doesn't mean you need to get all defensive and insulting. I mean, why do you even care? Seriously, you don't like reading my comments about the courts - so what? Do you actually expect me to modify my comments based on what you've decided you want?

Do you suppose I find your comments lively and interesting? I sincerely hope not.

Your comments towards me on this thread have all been identical. Why you think you might have any influence or effect over what I decide to do I really do not know... but it's very amusing that you believe I'm the one who is deluded.

Get on with your day, try a bit harder to enjoy it. By all means ignore my comments and certainly don't waste your time replying to them.

Hopefully, it may make you a little happier.

Good morning all.
Chan I am glad I am still the center of your little bitter world.

As I explained to you months ago when you "cloned" me to teach me a lesson you will always know me by my insults.
You are an idiot.
I am happy to see that other people have noticed your unacceptable behavior.
There has been talk of some new rules on the site I think they are needed and hopefully this will curb some of your disgusting remarks.
I see you have been at the thumbs again, do you feel validated by giving points to yourself?

You often attempt to highlight my mental health issues which I have been honest about but seriously I think you need help, If your opinions expressed are indeed your own.
This thread has been somewhat of an eye opener into what you think or wish to achieve its insane what defines victory for you? You have said you wish to make more people aware but what do you measure this by?
The number of thumbs you get?
Do you feel you can influence the way people vote? Dwindling voting figures would suggest this had failed.

The new rules cannot come in quickly enough.

Obviously, given the continual insults you hurl around at every opportunity, it's long overdue that you receive your ban.

Loving the 20 questions routine, by the way. You'll no doubt be pleased to hear I'll not be answering any of them.

At the risk of making him feel important.
Probably doesnt need to be banned just the rules enforced if the level of unacceptable behavior continues he will need to leave.
Fair warning no arguments, I appreciate this will only mean coming back under a new name but the feedback is pretty damning.

Dear old I Too / Empty Car Park / Still About... yes, we know how you and your friends love to ban anyone who doesn't share your view and toe the line as you'd like it toed.

I'm sure Mr Lyus will see right through what you're up to.

And quite why you think Talk Swindon has anything to do with this website I really have no idea.

By the way, how many of your different logins have now been banned at THIS site, due to your constant - often drunken - rants, insults and bizarre obesessions with others you don't happen to like? Must be at least two of them by now.

YOU ruin these comments sections with your pathological fixations with those you consider to have wronged you in some abstract and meaningless way.

As I've been telling you for what seems like years now: get help.

Actually, I'd be very interested to know which site rules you believe I've actually broken. Calling you out on your incoherent posts does not break any of them, at all.

However, you continually repeating that people are 'idiots' very much does break the site rules, and you should have been banned for it quite some time ago.

Enjoy your fishing.

As I understand it the rules say I cannot say anything untrue?
I havent, you are a spiteful, bitter arrogant little man.

It tickles me to see you all angry at nothing but your remarks on ex-servicemen, unemployed, families that need foodbanks, your passive aggressive taunts at anyone that doesnt agree with your "life experience" education.
For a man of your age your actions are childish, you seem to delighted in your comments to people that are less fortunate than yourself and have not had your privileged life.

I love your counter arguments its all about blame and distraction, you make wild sweeping ignorant statements, you claim your account has been cloned and EVERYONE always misunderstands what you meant. To your comment of calling people idiots I do not I refer to you as a moronic cretin and idiot because......Well I can only base it on your posts.
You label others as unhinged or crazy again in ignorance yet you have stalked me on twitter.
Anyone that doesnt agree with you is a labelled a leftie or loony (again in blissful ignorance). I almost forgot hypocrite would also be a word that applies to you.
On a number of occasions I have asked you to cease sending replies aimed at me I even asked for two fresh starts and to be adult. On both of these incidents you have continued to be abusive towards me.
So you may ask why a lengthy reply.....Good question I will miss you once you are banned.

Nothing caught yet but lovely day to sit out.

The site rules very clearly state:

Do not post anything that is false, abusive or malicious.

So, far, in this thread alone, you have said about me:

You are an idiot

and

you are a spiteful, bitter arrogant little man.

I refer to you as a moronic cretin and idiot

You may well believe all of the above is true, but it's also blantantly abusive. And it's not only me that you and your pal constantly abuse and insult.

Quite clearly, you have very much broken the site rules. Enough times in one thread to easily warrant a ban.
