THE future is looking even Brighter for the Great Western Hospital’s breast cancer treatment appeal after fundraising hit a whopping £55,000 milestone.

Brighter Futures, the charitable arm of the GWH Trust, has been trying to raise £75,000 to pay for one year’s worth of intra-operative radiotherapy treatment since they launched the appeal on March.

Much of the money has been raised by people in the community holding events like jumble sales and bake sales, plus those who took part in the Big Thrill skydive event last month, which raised £5,000, and the work of individuals including the hospital’s finance director, Maria Moore, who single-handedly raised more than £9,000 for the cause.

Jennifer Green, the head of fundraising for Brighter Futures, said: “The enthusiasm and the generosity from the people of Swindon and the surrounding areas has been overwhelming.

“It’s really all down to the little things that people are doing to help in the community.

“We’ve also had a couple of successful corporate bids which have helped us to raise the money too.

“We’re really feeling very positive to have reached £55,000. There is still more work to do but at this stage we are quite happy with our progress. We have lots of other fundraisers planned for throughout the autumn and winter too.

“It’s just been overwhelming how so many people have got behind the campaign.”

Future events include a handbag amnesty in November, and a Halloween event next month.
