WOOTTON Bassett Children’s Centre has been shortlisted for a grant of up to £3,000 and is appealing for the community to get behind their bid to land the cash.

The centre has a chance to receive a grant from the Lloyds Bank Community Fund 2014, which would enable it to continue doing good work in the community, after members of the public voted for the centre to be put on the shortlist.

The Sure Start centre, run by children’s charity Spurgeons, offers children and their carers in the town and the surrounding area a range of services, from support for parents to be, to parenting courses and one-to-one family sessions.

And now it needs the support of the community once again to secure the money.

Centre leader Deb Skilton said: “The funding will enable Wootton Bassett Children’s Centre to develop and improve the service it offers, to better support families affected by domestic abuse in the local area.

“Any extra funding can make a huge difference.”

The Lloyds Bank Community Fund was set up to help local people across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and Isle of Man to have a positive impact at the heart of their community by giving grants to up to 1,400 local good causes in 350 communities.

There are four good causes shortlisted in each community and Lloyds Bank is inviting everyone to vote for the causes they would most like to support.

Members of the public can vote for their preferred community group online, by SMS or Twitter, or in a branch of Lloyds Bank until October 10.

The local good cause that receives most votes in each community will receive an award of £3,000, with the other groups receiving £2,000, £1,000 or £500 depending on the votes received.
