POLICE are trying to track down a member of the public who reported an in-progress assault from a phone box in the early hours of Thursday morning.

The incident took place in Manchester Road at around 2.30am on Thursday and the man contacted police from the call box.

"A member of the public contacted Wiltshire Police from a public phone box on Manchester Road to report an assault taking place," said a police spokesman.

"The man then left to assist but did not leave a name or contact number."

Wiltshire Police is keen to trace this man as he may hold vital information regarding the incident.

  • A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident. He has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
