ROYAL Wootton Bassett Rotary Club have launched their sixth annual calendar in a fundraising push to aid treatment for prostate cancer and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

The new calendar launched on Saturday on the High Street, and features a variety of historic images of landmarks around the town, including the market and St Bartholomews church.

Ceri Pridding, Rotary Club president, said: “It’s our sixth annual calendar, which is our major fundraiser for bringing money into the club. We decide which charities will benefit most from our help before we put it together. This year, proceeds will be going to Prostate Cancer UK and Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

“The Air Ambulance are simply fantastic and both charities are so close to our hearts. The message this year is all about the buildings of Bassett, and we have gone with an old feel and it is printed with old dry colours.

“The pictures we have chosen span back about 100 years, from about 1906 to 1910. We had a committee meeting into it along with Wootton Bassett Town Museum, who own all the copyright for the photos.

“We tried to keep it as diverse as possible with some landmarks away from the High Street. One includes the market, which we have had in charter since the 16th century. We are hoping to be abe to shift 1,000 of them, and have had a first print run of 600.”

The first calendar was snapped up within seconds of the launch by Eileen Almond, and another lady will be sending hers to family in Hawaii. Copies cost £5 from Sainsbury’s, the Post Offices, Rowse, Dandelion, and Londis in Gainsborough Avenue.
