RAINDROPS Nursery has come under fire twice in the same week after both their childcare provisions were judged as inadequate by Ofsted.

On Wednesday the education watchdog said that the Cheney Manor provision failed to meet some basic requirements of the Childcare Register with poor teaching, ineffective leadership and a risk to children’s safety among some of the damning judgements made.

Then on Thursday Ofsted published the report for the nursery’s Pinehurst sister provision, which operates out of a room in the Sure Start Children’s Centre in Beech Avenue, following an inspection earlier this month.

The report once again found that staff were unable to promote children’s learning during play, there were poor systems of support and supervision for staff and that the monitoring of children’s progress was ineffective.

Inspectors did note, however, that many of the issues appeared to be linked to a recent change in the management.

Despite the damning judgements Lynn Mayneord, owner of Raindrops, has reassured parents that steps are already in place to address Ofsted’s concerns and make the necessary improvements.

She said: “Having recently taken on sole directorship of Raindrops this has brought with it additional responsibilities which were previously under the control of the outgoing director.

“A new nursery manager has been recruited following the departure of the outgoing director, who was nursery manager, and she is now in place.

“We are working hard to bring about the required changes, many of which are already in place, to ensure that we are meeting the shortcomings identified in the report.

“I would personally like to assure parents that I am committed as the director to turn the nursery around within the given timescale.

“Both I and the nursery manager have an open-door policy and any parent can come and talk to us about any concerns they have.”
