Prospect Hospice will begin a drive in autumn to recruit volunteers who can offer a few hours each week to support patients and their families at home.

The new Prospect Home Support Volunteers will visit patients and carers in their homes, offering companionship, supporting them with practical tasks in their homes and gardens, accompanying them to appointments and activities and encouraging them to get involved in local activities.

The new role has been developed to enhance the support patients and carers get from professionals at Prospect Hospice with some voluntary help.

A minimum commitment of three hours a week would be most beneficial and the time would be arranged to suit patients and volunteers.

Volunteers will not be asked to provide medical care such as administering drugs or changing dressings, or to do any tasks not previously agreed.
