SARAH Stringer-Browne’s dream of meeting her idol Jahmene Douglas once more came true yesterday when the singer surprised her by waltzing through her front door.

The 34-year-old, who was born with Down’s Syndrome, was stunned when the X Factor star popped in for a visit bearing a large gift hamper filled with £100 worth of Asda goodies donated by the company.

The congenital heart disease sufferer was nominated for the Christmas Wissh by her mother Sandra following a turbulent year, which culminated in open heart surgery last March.

“This time last year we didn’t think she would be alive,” said Sandra, 71, from Cricklade Road.

“When Sarah was in hospital all she wanted was for Jahmene to come and see her. But we didn’t know how to get in touch with him.

“When I saw the Wish in the paper I thought the Adver might get hold of Jahmene. When I got the call I couldn’t believe it.

"We didn’t tell anyone so it was a complete surprise for Sarah. It’s really lovely; it’s made her day. She will talk about it forever. ”

Dad Bill, 72, added: “She had three heart valves replaced or repaired. She had stenosis, which is a blockage, so they had to remove that.

"It was the third time she had heart surgery and there was an 80 per cent chance she might die. She is a treasure.”

Jahmene was deeply moved by Sarah’s story.

“I’ve been looking forward to seeing you,” he told her.

“I’m inspired by you. You’ve got a strong heart. It’s really special for me. And it’s nice to see you at home.”

A special kiss for Jahmene from his number one fan

Sarah met Jahmene twice through the Partners Theatre Company and even sang background vocals on a recording of his single Truth, produced in aid of charity Reach Inclusive Arts.

“I did a song called Truth to support Reach Inclusive Arts, who fund activities for people with autism or disabilities,” he said. “She was part of the choir; one of the best choirs I’ve been backed by.”

He added: “It’s weird to be someone’s wish. But I hope people find strength in whatever I put out there.” Although awestruck at first, Sarah soon recovered herself and gave him a warm hug and kiss. “I can’t believe he’s here,” she said. “I’m a big fan.”
